Title: 'Waiting Room'
About the Artwork: Archival Pigment Print on Hahnemuhle 210gsm 50% rag watercolor paper ''‘Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.’' - Rainer Maria Rilke From the Artist: “The painting is a reflection on waiting for resolution. There was a point in my transition where all I ever seemed to do was wait for healthcare, wait for someone to give me a diagnosis, wait for my appointment, wait for my medication to work, wait for my body to change and wait until another person to tell me I was trans. The painting is just of a room, but that room for me reflects the intensity of how I felt about needing resources that were available when I needed them.” |
Artist Bio:
Erin is a socially engaged artist painting indoors on canvas and activating public spaces with her murals. She has also implemented and curated a DIY art venue and a street art project in Cardiff Wales between 2013 and 2015. She completed her MA at City and Guilds London Art School in 2020. She seeks collaborations in and around the LGBTQ+ community and is an activist for trans rights. Erin lives and works in London, UK.
Her current practice looks at painting as an archive, a record of an experience or performance of the painter. Constructing her paintings merging figuration and abstraction with imagery that centres around domestic spaces. Through this imagery Erin is able to engage with the metaphor of the body as home.
