Bio of the artist:
Joe Iurato is a New Jersey based artist who creates the illusion of shadows and textures through layers of hand-cut stencils, a modern adaptation of an old-fashioned printing process. His paintings can be found in public spaces, internationally in galleries, and commercially.
About the print: In 2009, through public installations, original paintings, and prints, Joe began an effort to raise awareness and funding for WaterRun.org, a non-profit that provides safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene to those in need around the world. The portrait of a young Ethiopian girl from the Takusa region of Ethiopia was among his first pieces for the cause. Her commanding stare is one of hope (or “tesfa”, as translated in the Amarhic language).
It was in her village that the organization began its mission with the construction of a sustainable clean water well. Joe chose to recut and repaint the image, with a few revisions, exclusively for the Braddock Tiles Project.
