Bio of the artist:
Monica Canilao hails from Oakland, CA where she spends her days stitching, painting, printing, and breathing life into the refuse that dominates our time and place. Both delicate and unrefined, her reflections on home and community are woven into her large fabric structures, installations, and works on paper. She works alone and in collaboration with other artists, like Swoon, to build new worlds from the bones of broken down buildings and discarded things.
